We decided this year we would stick it out and buck our hemp by hand. I was going to modify some old machinery we had but next year I can post how that goes. We needed to get our field harvested so we built a box that might be useful else where. I think we need more post like this to help each other out. I call this the Terry Bucking Box (TBB). Its a simple design and very easy to make. You will have premium bucked hemp flower and leaves with minor stems in your bags. We actually got out hemp dried so we wet bucked as well. The super sack will sit inside but you just need to make sure your box is big enough to lift the box over the bag. Lifting the bag out of the box is a bit rough. Warning: Just so you know wet hemp sitting in a confined space is dangerous. Its the same thing as having wet hay. It will decompose which causing the material to thermally heat up and them combust. Keep an eye on this. Hope everyone had a great harvest. If anyone needs anything don't hesitate to reach out. We are located in Shelby County. We partner with farms and local companies to help with building a better hemp market. My hope is that we can post our story and help the next farmer with issues they may run into.

Our partners in Michigan have contract dryers that will come out to their farm and dry the hemp. Wondering if Illinois has any contractors like this.

Hello, so I posted about drying hemp months ago with no real input. Since our farm will have a decent crop this year we are getting an industrial belt dryer for 2020. I’ll have plenty of capacity left over so any farmers in Illinois who would like to go that route we can help out. We are only belt drying for our extracted hemp. We are hang drying for our flower. Pros and cons

We see a lot of information about drying hemp after harvest but at large scales it doesn't seem economical to dry hemp in a large barn. Does anyone know if we have an industrial scale drying system in the state? Are the industrial dryers worth looking into versus hang drying? Are people using the dryers after or before bucking the hemp?
